1854 – genuine Italian cuisine with Swedish traditions

It was a spring night year 1854 that former sergeant Nils Strid and his two companions committed one of the world’s biggest bank robberies in the cellar at Östgötha Bank in Linköping – in the exact same building where restaurant 1854 is located today, hence the name 1854.
If serving delicious food was a crime, then 1854 would definitely be arrested and faced with the same sentence as Nils Strid. Albeit the Swedish tale, the cuisine finds its inspiration from Italy. On the menu you find Italian classics such as carbonara, risotto, meat balls, carpaccio and many vegetarian options.
What happened to Nils? Hmm, neither he nor his companions where discrete about their new-found wealth, which made it easy for police to capture the perpetrators. Nils was sentenced to both lashing and deportation to America.
