The Nordic Region's leading and prestigious guide system, White Guide, has released their 2019 list of the best hotels in Sweden. See which hotels are on the list!
Sweden is replete with lovely, exclusive hotels, which means we are especially proud to be able to tell everyone how many Strawberry are on the list of Sweden's Best Hotels 2019 in the White Guide.
White Guide has published its famous restaurant guide every year since 2005 and since that time has also started to list the best hotels in several areas and countries in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
Strawberry has a total of 12 hotels on the list!
There are a total of 100 hotels that have been voted amongst Sweden's best by White Guide. Each one is different, from spectacular destination hotels to innovative and modern little gems. Common to all the lucky winners is that they are all highly recommended. Of course, we must proudly present our 12 hotels that entered the list. Read about hotels in Malmö all the way in the south, to Åre and Luleå in the north. But let's start in our dear capital!
Stockholm
At Six
“If you want to enjoy your stay to the fullest, you should put your detail-glasses on, because it is the details at At Six that are most impressive.” The wonderful details of the hotel are just one of the reasons why the design hotel At Six, on Brunkebergstorg, ended up on White Guide's list.
At Six can be found in central Stockholm. The hotel opened in March 2017. An exclusive hotel, with a unique selection of rooms on offer.
HOBO
“A loaded water pistol on the bathroom shelf, who wouldn’t be happy? ‘Childish’ is probably not the right adjective to use, but ‘youthful’ is certainly one that suits HOBO” this is how the description in the White Guide of HOBO begins.
Next door to At Six is HOBO, also on Brunkebergstorg, in the middle of Stockholm. Sustainability, community and urban environments – a place where you can stay, chill, hang out and be inspired. Just take a look at this cool wall in the hotel lobby.
Yasuragi
“Beautifully located in the archipelago, a reasonable distance from Stockholm. An important part of the concept is to quickly drop your clothes and shut off your mobile phone.” And the White Guide is absolutely right. At Yasuragi, the focus is on inner peace and harmony, which is also what the word “Yasuragi” means. Here you will find everything from washing rooms and hot springs to saunas, CO2 baths, foot baths, and much more. Below you see part of the quiet Japanese bath.
Gothenburg
Avalon Hotel
“It’s a lovely and comforting feeling when you step into the hotel entrance and look right into the restaurant. Several design icons have fashioned the furniture there, which gives life to both the public spaces and the rooms. The coolest thing is to stay in a room with windows from floor to ceiling and a view of the square, perhaps in a room where the bathtub is integrated.” Part of the fine reasoning behind the decision from White Guide.
Avalon Hotel is feng shui-certified, so of course the focus is on architecture, colour, shape and light. The hotel's design and atmosphere are just as wonderful to experience as the restaurant's food and drink.
Clarion Hotel® Post
“You would have to search far and wide to find a more impressive entrance – a beautiful gold wall framing the gates of Petter Stordalen's parade hotel in Gothenburg.” The entrance at Clarion Hotel Post is just one of the things that impressed White Guide. The old post office in Gothenburg was demolished and then reopened in 2012, now as a hotel. Popular bars and restaurants mean that the hotel is full of happy people every day.
Malmö
Clarion Hotel® Malmö Live
“This is truly a congress hotel of international standard, with gigantic usable spaces. Everyone can admire the many works of art placed about by a number of modern artists.” According to White Guide, the 25-storey building is incredibly spacious, and all 444 rooms are extremely clean and affordable.
The magnificent Clarion Hotel Malmö Live is perfectly located next to Malmö Central Station. If you are not keen on great Latin American street food or a luxurious drink 85 metres above sea level, you can go out on the town and quickly find a restaurant within walking distance.
Linköping
Quality Hotel™ The Box
“We actually ignore the fact that the view over a roundabout and a highway could have been more inspiring. Quality Hotel The Box boasts two really strong cards: a spa that is truly worth its salt and insanely nice staff.” High praise and lovely words in the White Guide about Quality Hotel The Box.
A newly opened hotel with design, furnishings and staff that are equally delightful. The spa mentioned by the White Guide is magical, 600 square metres with both indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, experience-showers and lounges. And the icing on the cake: very cheap entry.
Luleå
Clarion Hotel® Sense
“Step through the doors of Sense and your senses are engaged immediately. Here you are wrapped in a mild vanilla scent that frames the large lobby – during the day often well-filled with conference guests, and towards the evening, a music scene with people hanging out in the bar.” In addition, the White Guide describes how this large Luleå hotel will not strike you as gigantic and impersonal (as some large hotels unfortunately often can).
At Clarion Hotel Sense you will find a restaurant with a unique view. Also a large spa, art and a lobby bar, which in the evenings is filled with music and a cosy atmosphere as people hang out in the bar.
Åre
Copperhill Mountain Lodge
“As you walk along the winding road up the mountain you begin to realize that something grand awaits, and sure enough, Copperhill is a magnificent experience that offers a miles-wide view of Lake Åre and the mountains around. Once inside, you will quickly forget about any bad weather as the warmth of the fire warms you.” This is how White Guide’s reasoning behind their decision with regard to Copperhill Mountain Lodge begins.
Copperhill Mountain Lodge is no ordinary ski hotel. With its incredible spa, food experiences in close proximity to mountains and magical views, it has been voted Sweden’s best ski hotel several years in a row.
Jönköping
Vox Hotel
“Vox is perfectly situated for reaching most things in Jönköping. It is located on a rather anonymous backstreet a stone's throw away from the shopping streets and 500 metres from the station.” The reasoning behind White Guide’s decision continues to describe the colour scheme at the hotel, which consists mostly of gold and black, and which contributes to the hotel being similar to a more luxurious nightclub. Some of the rooms at VOX Hotel have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking lake Vättern.
Visby
Clarion Hotel® Wisby
“The old city hotel has so much authority and such old walls that it proudly carries its unique charm and position as the premier classic hotel in Visby.” White Guide’s compliments are exuberant.
During the Almedalen week, Clarion Hotel Wisby is visited by a lot of well-known politicians. But the hotel is just as popular the rest of the year, especially the hotel spa, which is located on the lower ground floor.
Sunne
Selma Spa
