1. Shopping, cafés and nightlife
No matter what you enjoy, you’re sure to find it in Stockholm. In Södermalm, you can head for the colourful Hornstull with its restaurants and rock clubs, or you can wander over to the trendy SoFo with its bars, bohemian cafés and vintage style. 2. Fjords, countryside and metropolis
Have you ever wandered along Havnepromenaden in Oslo? You can follow the Akerselva river via cafés and bars all the way up to lake Maridalsvannet if you like. Munch your way around the food courts at Vippa and Mathallen, or take a look at the stylish Tjuvholmen by the sea. You’ll find delicious drinks and brilliant atmosphere at the many nightspots in Youngstorget, for instance.
3. Sandwiches and cobblestones
Some 10 million people visit Copenhagen every year, and we can certainly see why. You can get anything your heart desires here – herring and schnapps at Nyhavn, street food at Papirøen – or head for Vesterbro for shows and shopping. 4. In the home of the sauna
One of the European capitals that’s truly come into its own over the past few years is Helsinki. 5. The Paris of the North
There’s something truly exotic about Tromsø. This cosy town offers hotels, great restaurants and popular bars in each and every street, and there’s some incredible countryside right on the doorstep. You can see the magical Midnight Sun in summer, or in winter drive a dogsled across the plains. And if you’re lucky, you’ll even get to see the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.
6. Between the seven mountains
In the western town of Bergen, you simply have to see Ulriken, Fløyen and Fisketorget at least once in your life. You can spend hours at Bryggen and wandering through the many streets in the town, which are home to some historical timber buildings, restaurants and bars. 7. Old Nidaros
The town is pretty compact, so you can get a lot done in a day in Trondheim. Walk along the Nidelven river and through the old town of Bakklandet, and take a break at a café on the banks of the river. 8. Stunning views and colours
Besides world-famous natural attractions such as Kjeragbolten, Preikestolen and the beaches of Jæren, the town of Stavanger is well worth a trip. There are some beautiful little shops here, and a separate street where all the timber houses are painted in a delightful explosion of colours – and there are all kinds of great places to eat here, too. 9. Music, food and Liseberg
The charming port city of Gothenburg has lots of shops, eateries and bars to choose from, and you certainly won’t be disappointed if fish and shellfish are your thing. You’ll also find the Liseberg amusement park here, and every summer the city plays host to Way Out West, one of the biggest music festivals in Sweden.
10. Street food and falafel
Just across the bridge from Copenhagen is the Southern Swedish city of Malmö. Have a walk round Folkets park or head for the Lilla torg watering hole – and don’t forget to taste the city’s famous falafel! You’ll find loads of good street food and exciting restaurants around Möllevångstorget.
