Are the city hotels in Copenhagen fully booked or too expensive? Think outside the box! The airport hotels at Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen are the perfect base for your next weekend break in Copenhagen: “We were in the city centre in ten minutes,” says traveller Pia Zäther
10 minutes to central Copenhagen
Kastrup, isn’t that a long way from Copenhagen? I wanted to go shopping in the Strøget area, hang out in Nyhavn and experience the real Danish “hygge”! Does this sound familiar? It did to Pia Zäther, a 50-year-old Swede from the town of Jönköping. That is, until she and her travelling companion tried staying at Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport in the heart of Kastrup during their weekend in Copenhagen in December 2017. Pia and her husband were looking forward to a city break filled with wonderful restaurants and shopping. After doing some research, they chose to stay at Kastrup because most of the hotels in the city centre were fully booked and were outside of their price range. Pia was pleasantly surprised by both the standard and the location.
“It was actually a stroke of luck that so many city centre hotels were fully booked, otherwise we wouldn’t have ended up at the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport!” Pia told us.

From the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport, it’s just 1 minute to the airport and 10 minutes to go shopping.
Ni’mat Spa offers a warm salt-water pool, an aromatherapy sauna and six treatment rooms.
A fresh and impressive hotel
“The hotel was great – fresh and impressive, and we never needed to turn on the TV to find entertainment. We only had to look out of our giant, floor-to-ceiling hotel room window to watch all the planes taking off and landing,” said Pia.
Despite the proximity to the airport, it was totally silent in the room:
“We didn’t hear even one plane take off or land. It was really well soundproofed,” said Pia, and continued:
“But the thing that surprised us most was how convenient the Metro was. Just 10 minutes and we were in central Copenhagen! We didn’t even need to leave the hotel to get to the metro station.”
The Copenhagen Metro, lines M1 and M2. There is only a single line from the hotel into the city so you can’t possibly go wrong.
Departures every 4-6 minutes with the Metro
There is a walkway tunnel connecting the Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport with the station where you can take either the Metro or a train into central Copenhagen. So you don’t have to worry about the weather preventing you from getting into the city to experience the charm of Copenhagen. The automatic Metro carriages depart frequently – every 4-6 minutes during the day and at 15-20 minute intervals at night. In 2018, a single ticket costs 36 DKK per person, and you can buy tickets on the Copenhagen Metro website, or at ticket machines located at all stations. We recommend buying a Citypass, which will give you unlimited travel for 72 hours at a cost of 200 DKK, or for 24 hours at a cost of 80 DKK.
