Great Location, But Comfort Falls Short

My company chose this hotel for me during a project in Oslo, which involved extremely long work hours. Having a comfortable hotel room was essential. Now, I’ll admit, I’m quite picky—so if you’re not, feel free to skip this review. Overall, the hotel isn’t terrible; there was nothing majorly wrong. But quite a few small issues added up over the course of my stay. The Good: The staff were very friendly, the location was fantastic, and the room's interior was well-designed. Breakfast was also quite good—though I missed having fried eggs. The Bad: The elevators are frustrating. The floor labels are confusing: U, 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, and so on. I once ended up on floor 1A when I needed floor U, and the elevator wouldn’t go down from there. Pressing the button for 1B didn’t work either, so I had to go up to 2A and then take the stairs. My colleague had the same issue. The hotel layout feels like a maze, with small staircases and elevators scattered around. The room itself was too cold. After long workdays, I’d come back to a freezing room, but the air conditioning panel didn’t work, so I couldn’t adjust the temperature. This brings me to the bathroom. The shower had only one wall. I’ll never understand why hotels do this—it’s so cold when the water is off. The floor was also uncomfortably cold. My colleagues complained about the bathroom temperature, too. Additionally, there was no shelf for toiletries. I had to stack everything on the sink, and things kept falling, getting wet. The bed sheets were too narrow, more like child-sized sheets. I usually sleep with my knees bent and my back curved, but with these sheets, my knees would stick out. Since the room was so cold, I couldn’t leave them uncovered, so I had to layer an extra sheet on top. Lastly, there was no water kettle. I think every hotel room should have one. Overall: After a long workday, I didn’t find this hotel room comfortable enough to unwind in. I’ll skip this place next time.

A nice, cool hotel with basic standard and perfect location. Nice bar, fantastic breakfast and friendly attitude. However, at the moment there is a construction going on outside, which the staff know but failed to tell us about. For a business person how sets the alarm at 7 am wailing up to construction noice at 6 might not be the end of the world, but for us, who have been looking forward to sleeping in and then spending the day at Oslo’s museums, it’s been very irritating. So, after trying to sleep a little more with the pillows on our heads (one pillow per guest, basic as stated) to keep the noice out, we questioned the situation at the front desk. The receptionist wasn’t at all surprised, she immediately offered us to change room for our second night. While we of course appreciate that, our first night and only full day of our mini vacation is already ruined. In our opinion, the staff should have warned us about the disturbance when we checked in, they should have offered us ear plugs and given a discount. Failing to do so when the construction is no news to them is nothing but ignorant and unprofessional.

Comfort Hotel Karl Johan is a very nice hotel and is located on one of most lively streets in Oslo. The train, bus and trams all stop nearby and there are many dining options. The room was nice and quiet. Breakfast was excellent with numerous choices. The location was also walkable to many sights including museums and ferries. We were able to get everywhere we needed with public transportation although buying a bus ticket was quite the challenge, even at the bus station.

Very convenient to everywhere. Literally when you walk out the hotel, all the shops and restaurants were there. Very accommodating staff especially the breakfast people! Shoutout to Marichu for taking care of us. Super nice of her to give us packed breakfast because we have an early flight. And also to Wilma, very helpful on where to go in Oslo. I will be back here for sure. I highly recommend it when in Oslo!
