The Clarion Hotel Wisby of today opened on 1 May, 1991, a contemporary hotel with a completely unique atmosphere all of its own. But a hotel has been run within these walls since the mid-1800s.
A hotel with a long history
The building's history, which dates back to medieval times, can be found in many of the interior features. There are rooms with cross vaulted ceilings and columns over 700 years old. The properties which make up Clarion Hotel Wisby have had many uses over the years. They were originally built as medieval warehouses, where merchants would store and display their goods. At the end of the 1600s they were used as crown warehouses. During that time, there was also a restaurant called Stadshuskallaren Friheten. The named lived on for many years in the hotel restaurant, the current Kitchen & Table restaurant and bar.
New hotel section
On 1 June 2013, a brand new hotel section opened with 77 wonderful, spacious double rooms. In the new part of the hotel, we have tried to convey the special aura from the older parts, taking advantage of all the history we have here at our fingertips. The new rooms have a lovely view of the harbour or our charming garden. In conjunction with the addition of the new hotel section we opened Kopparsalen, the pleasant space in the hotel's copper building that connects two of the buildings. The hotel garden can be reached from here, which has a small lounge/patio area in the summer.
