Clarion Collection® Hotel Katajanokka

This historical hotel is a must in Helsinki. Great location, excellent breakfast and a super helfull staff. During our check in we were received by lady which gave us a brief about our room history and about the building. We loved to be imersive in the history and give us a plus to our staying.

Very handy for the ferry terminal if coming from Helsinki. Tram stop No 4 outside. A lovely choice for something a bit different. So lucky to get an early check in after ferry arrival, allowed us to go and explore quickly. Very nicely renovated and appointed nice reception staff. Lovely room with tea and coffee making available. Good curtains easily drawn for the high windows. Breakfast very nice on the lower ground level. Only point to mention is the eating area is still quite dark and could do with a couple more spotlights. Evening meal option is quite basic.

Walkable from the overnight Stockholm Viking ferry, the Katajanoka is on a tram line to Helsinki central. Formerly the city prison, its renovation is culturally sensitive and stunning, the rooms gorgeous, well appointed, and silent due to the 3-foot thick walls. Not only is breakfast at the excellent restaurant included, but afternoon fika and a light dinner every day as well. The Katajanokka offered, by far, the most value/price hotel stay we encountered during a month in Scandinavia. We'd go back to Helsinki just to stay with them again. Kudos to the entire staff.

We were drawn to this hotel because of it's unique history and absolutely loved our stay here. The rooms were clean and the beds extremely comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised that breakfast, lunch and dinner were all available at no extra cost and the quality of the food was outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit outside the city center, but only a short walk away and the tram stops just in front of the hotel making getting into the center quick and easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to others.

Everything is fine, in customer service maybe the best customer service person in Finland at the reception (young man). I would give it five stars, but the pasta ran out in the middle of the evening meal (which the female customer server luckily told us about the freeness of it), as did the bread. Of course, more of them were brought. Maybe there should be more visible information about the fact that at the end of the dining room there is an authentic prison experience from the 50s visible, which was a pleasant surprise for me, because my relative worked in a prison at the time. The courtyard of the hotel/former prison and its neighborhood planting boxes were also nice. Easily accessible hotel by tram, next to its stop.
