Clarion Hotel® Admiral

Our room was extremely cramped and cluttered. Despite the tiny size of the room, the hotel decided to fill the room with large furniture pieces. The balcony door opened directly into a large glass lampshade. We had a very nice view of historic Bryggen and the water, but we couldn’t easily access the windows or balcony over all of the furniture. The room was incredibly worn and filthy. Everything was coated with dust and grime. The furniture was completely tattered and broken. There was even a large, rusty hole in our bathroom that opened into the walls of the building. Even the handsoap dispenser was grimy. We dropped off our luggage and decided to just stay the next two nights, despite the conditions. We left and immediately returned to the room after forgetting my glasses. Upon returning, the door had not locked and we opened the door without using our keys. At this point, we decided we could not stay at this hotel. We took our bags and walked to a (much more expensive) hotel across town. I called Choice Hotels to cancel our stay. They kept me on phone for over an hour before telling me they would not cancel the stay. I continued to plead my case and was hung up on. I called again and spoke with someone willing to help me. She informed me that because it was after checkin time, they would not refund. I again explained the situation and customer service ultimately relented in refunding me my second night only. They said they could not cancel the first night because they could not resell it. Incredibly, the sold out hotel suddenly had an opening that evening after cancelling my room. Absolutely terrible experience with Choice Hotels. Do NOT stay here.

Clarion Admiral Hotel Bergen Centrally located in Bergen near the Fish market. Sit at the window at breakfast for a beautiful view across the harbour to the Bryggen. Rooms are warm and cosy, bathrooms clean and staff are helpful when asking questions. You can walk to almost anything in the main area staying here.

This place was amazing! We paid extra for a room overlooking the harbour and it took me back to staying in the vicinity around 50 years ago. The facilities were great, the rooms perfect and we were able to donate cold weather gear that we wouldn't use again (in Australia) to the Christmas Tree behind Reception. There were restaurants nearby and it was a great stopping off point for coming back from a Hurtigruten cruise before moving on (to Denmark in this instance).

Perfect location for city exploring. We booked as this hotel gives you a direct view across the water to Bryggen - which we loved enjoying every morning at breakfast. The location meant that we could pop back and forward to the hotel during our days out in the city. We were within 2 minutes of the cruise boarding location, the MattHallen, central square and supermarket to name a few. Breakfast at the hotel was the best I have ever seen! We had everything from energy shots, smoothies, crispy bacon, a gluten free station, and much much more. We always savoured breakfast time. On our check out day the hotel was great in getting our taxi for airport transfer. Nothing was ever too much hassle.

We could not have been more satisfied with our stay at Clarion Hotel Admiral. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful (thank you Millie and Daniel!) The rooms were spacious, modern and clean. The restaurant served a delicious and fresh buffet and there was coffee available to us whenever we needed it. The location was also amazing- walking distance from the center of town and right on the water. We would absolutely stay here again, and cannot recommend this hotel enough!
