Our concept is based on Bergen's great pride, Ole Bull, the famous 19th century violinist and composer. Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson referred to Ole Bull as: "The first and biggest celebration in the life of the Norwegian people." We also want your stay at the Hotel Oleana to be a "moment of celebration" for you.
A unique stately atmosphere in the mountains
For several hundred years, the Ole Bull Square has been a bustling epicentre of the city's rich cultural life and a place where locals tend to meet up. Fashionable hotels on the Ole Bull Square have welcomed guests from near and far for generations. Our beautiful hotel building dates back to 1925, and has now been completely renovated and rebuilt into a spectacular and modern hotel in the spirit of Ole Bull. The hotel faces the Ole Bull Square with lots of greenery just on the doorstop. "Den Nationale Scene" (National Theatre) majestically looms at the top of the square.
Ole Bull - the world's first superstar?
He celebrated musical triumphs all over the world from his debut at home in Bergen as an eight-year-old with the Harmonien Orchestra, to when he played "On the Sun I See" high up on the Great Pyramid in Egypt. He lived life to the fullest, but also had visionary thoughts and ideas for the future of his homeland. Oleana was the name of a utopian colony that Ole Bull founded for Norwegians in the USA. The name symbolises continued creativity, an open mind and a little bit of Bergen's wildness. This perfectly suits the spirit of our spectacular Hotel Oleana, with plenty of adventure right outside the hotel door.
