Hotel history
The oldest parts of Hotel Hammer were built in an area with a long history. The area became best known in the mid-1800s, when the merchant and politician Thorstein Lunde started textile manufacturing here and established the area as a trading venue. Lunde came to mean a great deal to Lillehammer, and later on became the city's mayor. These days the hotel is spread throughout many smaller historical buildings. During the 1900s, the famous Lund furniture was manufactured here, and master carpenter Einar Austlid's workshop was located in one of the buildings.
