Hotel history
The Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus has a long and exciting history. The manor-style building dates back to 1912 and was originally used as a guest house. The first three proprietors were women, each more extraordinary than the other. Miss Sofie Sommerfeldt, who managed the guest house from 1918-1945, lived on the second floor, and let her two cockatoos fly freely in the house. She was also known for sitting down for a chat with her guests, while enjoying a puff on her pipe.
