Exciting history
Just like Clarion Collection Hotel Atlantic, the area has a long and exciting history. Sandefjord was an important home port for the country's whalers for a long time. The first whaling expeditions to the Atlantic departed from here in 1905, almost ten years before the Clarion Collection Hotel Atlantic was built. Whaling ceased in the 1960s, but this important era lives on today – in the Hvalfangstmuseet and the famous Hvalfangstmonumentet (Whaling Monument), as well as at our hotel. The entire hotel is a living museum, with ornaments which tell the story of whaling and its importance to the village.
