Quality Hotel™ Ulstein

I stayed here for a night while driving the rough the region. The hotel was undergoing renovation with gut renovation of rooms going on. That created some noise, but I was impressed at the lengths they were going and I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms. It was well laid out with a view away from the street. The breakfast buffet was one of the better ones I encountered on a long trip with a wide selection and well made items. Ulsteinvik is a small town and there are two small shopping malls nearby. I was able to self-cater from one of the local supermarkets and didn’t eat dinner in the restaurant. There were only a couple small restaurants in the town. The hotel was hosting a conference of some sort and that kind of trade is probably how a relatively large hotel like this manages in such a small place.

A perfect respite of a location on our Western Norwegian Road Trip. Compared to our accommodation two nights before, this hotel delivered!The affordable price (with balcony to boot!), spacious parking space, wide selection of breakfast food. We ate dinner at the restaurant the night before and it was also a pleasant experience. If there were a few complaints: 1) two young girls serving the breakfast buffet neither spoke Norwegian nor English. I think this is considerably odd if you're in this line of work... 2) A visible stain on the "love sofa" we stayed at.

We checked in for a long weekend trip to see relatives. We found the rooms to be adequate in size - the bonus was getting a room with a balcony to enjoy the views of the Sunnmøre Alps. More importantly, the bed was comfortable and the rooms were clean. The staff in reception were very helpful too. On that basis alone, I would give the hotel four stars. However, the restaurant was a bit of a let down - mainly caused by the serving staff that I would say would need better training. When requesting the pan fried cod that was on the limited a la carte menu (not necessarily a bad thing to allow the kitchen to do a limited menu very well), we were told that it was not available. So that left three dishes - on of which was fillet of venison. Perfectly cooked, and very nice. Three times we requested the pan fried cod, and every single time we were told it was not available. The hotel has the seafront as it's nearest neighbour, and a handful of fishing boats were moored less than 100 meters away - can it really be that difficult to get fresh cod in that place? The serving staff could do with trying to remember who wanted what dish even in a group of 8 - and learning to not just leaving the bottle of wine on the table for example. Overall, we will be happy to stay there again, but looking to dine elsewhere - for example at the Snorrebuda a few hundred meters further down Sjøgata.

A good hotel, ordinary rooms, nice location and design. Very good "klippfisk" for dinner in the restaurant! Ordinary breakfast. Nice outdoor areas. We had a room to the main street, noisy when windows open.
