We had a great stay, good value for money, easy access to the center of Gothenburg

This was our first stay at the Clarion Collection Hotel Mektagonen. We had a great stay, and we will most book this hotel again on our next visit to Gothenburg. The hotel itself is located in the Falkenberg district. It was easy to find using the GPS, and unlike many of our previous visits to Gothenburg, driving here from Norway was actually not a challenge this time, as you completely avoid the extensive roadwork that is causing GPS maps to become outdated every second week... There are several parking options around the hotel; we chose the parking deck, which cost us 225 SEK per 24 hours. Trams #2 and #4 will take you to and from the center of Gothenburg (approx 15 mins from the center and at the time of writing the ticket will cost you 36 SEK per adult person and is valid for 90 mins). The tram stop is just outside the hotel. The hotel itself is located in a multifunctional building. There's a large orthopedic clinic here that makes it feel like you are visiting a hospital - at least when you are walking from the reception to your room or the parking deck. There are several doors that need to be unlocked to actually be able to get into to your room (at the reception floor and when entering the room corridors). This is a bit of an annoyance, but at the same time it also serves as an extra safety measure, so I won't complain too much about it. The building also houses a large grocery store (Willy's), a large gym, a sushi restaurant and some other smaller businesses. Check-in went smooth. We had booked two standard rooms and requested to have these as connecting rooms, and this request was honored. Unfortunately they had not unlocked the connecting doors before check-in, but this was solved quickly even though we arrived late (after 22:00). The rooms were surprisingly spacious and modern, but the white walls were a bit sterile (once again the feeling of being at a hospital was reinforced). Some color and styling on the walls would have made the room more cozy, but of course this is not a dealbreaker at all. The rooms were "hotel clean" - not dirty but not exactly squeaky clean either. What sets this hotel apart from many other hotels is the fact that the rooms have kitchenettes! That means that you have access to a proper fridge, a micro oven, and a cooktop (with a ventilator). There's obviously also a sink there so you can do the dishes. However - the cookware and cutlery are NOT included in the room price, but you can rent a set for SEK 300 for the entire stay (are you staying more than 5 nights, it will be included for free). This is not a dealbreaker either (we weren't planning to make food anyway), although it would have been nice if some knives, forks and spoons were available in the room without having to rent an entire set. The bathroom was spacious with a proper shower (with enough water coming out!) with an electric rack for drying towels. The more expensive rooms apparently also have saunas. The beds were not so comfy (a bit on the soft side), and hopefully they will upgrade them during the next renovation cycle of the hotel. There was enough cabinet space for clothes, and the cabinet also contained a safe for your valuables. A sofa (that can be turned into a double bed), 2 tables and 3 chairs made it possible for us to play cards and yatzy. It's hard to tell whether the ventilation in the rooms is sufficient or not. It wasn't too hot or too cold, but it was only around 20 degrees outside when we stayed here. There was a control panel on the wall, but it is not known if this room is airconditioned or not (nothing happened when I used the control panel). The room had 3 windows - all of them could be opened for ventilation purposes. I would also like to point out the fact that in addition to a good hotel breakfast, the Clarion Collection line of hotels also include both "fika" (an afternoon snack) and an evening meal in the room rates. The latter is a great option if you don't want to go to a restaurant - either to save some money or if you're not feeling like going out. The meals aren't particularly fancy, but they are tasty enough and you certainly won't be starving. We tried the taco buffet, and the day before the menu stated that they had burgers. One final reflection: The staff is very friendly and service minded. They seem to enjoy what they're doing. I will reward an extra service point for receiving a personalized message in the room with some chocolates and a bottle of water. We will certainly be staying here again.

I have stayed here before and we were satisfied this time as well. This is a perfect option when staying as a family and going to Liseberg etc, only a short tram-ride away. Our room was big with a small kitchen and the beds are comfortable. Easy check-in and check-out process. Our booking also included breakfast and dinner, which is super price worthy. Good breakfast with lots of options.

The hotel has a modern and clean look. The staff is nice and helpful. Big and clean rooms. Beds are comfortable and the food is good. One thing the hotel can greatly improve is parking for its guests. This is handled badly by the hotel. This hotel is part of a big hotel enterprise which should be able to make the stay for the guests as easy and problem free as possible. At check-in you receive information about where to park and which app to use for parking, on a piece of paper. This is the only information you get from the hotel. In addition you pay the hotel a parking fee per 24h. For everything else about parking and questions, the hotel refers to Aimo parking, which is the parking company responsible for parking at this parking facility. You also have to pay Aimo parking a parking fee per hour as long as you are parked on site. That means double parking fee (hotel + Aimo)! This should be converted into one parking fee, so its more predictable and understandable for the hotel guests. PS! If you have an electric vehicle you want to charge over night, be extremely cautious and make sure you pay the correct fee (parking + charging) in the Aimo app. The hotel can't help you with questions about parking and/or charging, but refers only to Aimo. If you choose the wrong alternative in the app, you might be unfortunate to get a parking citation/fee. Neither the hotel or Aimo (in the app or on signs in the parking lot) have information about parking and/or charging. Both the hotel and Aimo have a responsibility to give the hotel guests and other users of the parking lot, and to inform properly and sufficient information so it eliminates any misunderstandings a foreign tourist and guest could be victim of, in order for users to be able to park, charge and pay correctly while using the parking facility. The hotel and Aimo have to work together to fix this current issue about parking, in order to make the whole parking process as seamless as possible for the hotel guests. The guests shouldn't be the ones to have to pay for bad or no information about parking, charging and paying for it.

The hotel is ideally situated for access to trams that run every few minutes and also if needed a large supermarket just a 10 minute walk. After reading some of the reviews I wasn't expecting too much food wise, but breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and the evening meal was first class, really enjoyed it and if you happen to be around between 3-5pm coffee and cake, so no complaints at all. The staff were professional, friendly and courteous. The rooms were clean and spacious with use of your own kitchen. We definitely made the right choice staying here and would do so again.

I honestly think this is one of the best value hotels in Gothenburg. The rooms were comfortable, had no issues with them. Breakfast and dinner were free, breakfast was exceptional and plentiful. The two stars off are for dinner. On the first day we had lasagna and the lasagna was burnt and tasted horrible so had to order food somewhere else because the lasagnas were not soo eatable. Attached below are the lasagnas for reference. I would definitely return, the reception staffs were also nice and friendly.
