Vintergatan Galleria is located above Skellefteå Stadspark (the city park) and has a range of nice shops and bars. Skellefteå is located approximately 15 kilometres upstream from Bottenviken and Skelleftehamn, where the E4 meets Skellefteälven. From the hotel it is just a 5-minute walk to Skellefteå Bus Station. Skellefteå Airport is only a 20-minute drive from the city centre.

Skellefteå is a young city in an old village with lots to see and do - the city was founded in 1845 but the Skellefteå parish goes all the way back to the 1300s. The city is sometimes called the "gold city" - much thanks to the famous Skelleftefältet, which is one of the world's mineral richest fields. The “Nordanå” culture and recreation area, located in the city's modern centre, is an interesting and historical place. Here, the importance of the site is seen in church, social, and commercial life, all right from the Middle Ages. Västerbottensteatern (a theatre), Skellefteå Museum and Nordanås teater give visitors a wide choice of cultural activities in the city. The city also has several renowned writers and has recently become known as "the city of the narrators", with for example the annual Berättarfestival (storyteller festival) taking place in Skellefteå. Skellefteå is also a successful sports city and has achieved great success in ice hockey, skiing, and martial arts.
