Gamla StanStockholm
Sorry we have no available hotels on your selected dates in this destination
Coming to Stockholm and want to stay near Gamla Stan, one of Europe's largest and most well-preserved medieval city centres? We have several hotels within walking distance of the sights of Gamla Stan and Stockholm Central Station.
Of course it is easy to stay near one of Stockholm's most popular destinations, which is also next to both city/Norrmalm and Södermalm! A stone's throw from both the Hobo and At Six hotels is Stockholm's largest pedestrian street, Drottninggatan, which leads you straight to the medieval quarter of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) in just 5 minutes. With Stockholm city and the T-centralen at your back, you will soon pass through the striking quarter with the Riksdagshuset (The parliament building). When you're out on the Riksbron, it's hard to miss Stockholm's castle, which crowns the heights of Gamla Stan. From Nordic Light Hotel, Hotel C Stockholm and Comfort Hotel® Xpress Stockholm Central it takes about 15 minutes to walk to Gamla Stan, and if you want to stay at Södermalm it takes about 25 minutes from Clarion Hotel® Stockholm. Enter the winding cobblestone streets and let yourself be fascinated by buildings from the 13th century!
It is no wonder that the Old Town is often listed as a must for those who plan to go to Stockholm. There is a huge selection of sights, shopping, crafts, Nationalkatedralen (the National Cathedral), Storkyrkan, museums and restaurants. Kungliga slottet (the Royal Palace) attracts many visitors, including museums and the changing of the guard. Anyone interested in history should not miss the Livrustkammaren, where royal clothes, weapons and armour tell an exciting story of Sweden's former rulers. Nobelmuséet (The Nobel Museum), on Stortorget, is definitely worth a visit as well.
Walking around Gamla Stan is like being in a museum - with its unique environment of winding city streets, houses, squares and churches with ancient roots it is easy to let your imagination take you to another time. The Gamla Stan's two main streets, Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan, are good as a starting point, but you also turn into small charming side streets. Do not miss Mårten Trotzig's alley, Stockholm's narrowest street - only 90 cm in width! Stortorget is a natural focal point, as well as the place of the hair-raising history of Stockholm's bloodbath. Even if you can discover a lot on your own, it is obviously a completely different experience with a guided tour! Choose from everything from classic, historic tours to hair-raising ghost walks.
