To get a really good idea of what the city’s like, going on a walk through the city is ideal. Begin in Kyrkbacken, the oldest district in Västerås, and stroll amongst wooden houses and winding alleys. Not far away is Västerås Domkyrka, Sweden's third largest cathedral, which is definitely worth a visit. Other historically worthwhile sights are Proban, which is Sweden's only preserved school prison, and Karlsgatan 2, which consists of two museums: Västerås Art Museum and Västmanlands County Museum. Other popular places to visit in Västerås are the city's botanical gardens, Västerås Slott and Djäkneberget, a central city park with a nice restaurant.

Smooth connections

There are many different ways of getting to Västerås, whether you are travelling within Sweden or from abroad. From Stockholm-Västerås Airport it takes about 8 minutes by car to Clarion Collection Hotel Etage and Comfort Hotel Västerås, while it takes just over an hour from both Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Skavsta Airport. Västerås city centre offers train, bus terminal and shuttle/airport buses.
