We loved this hotel and the beautiful town of Alesund. We caught the airport bus into town from Alesund airport mainly because it was ready to go as we stepped out of the airport. The hotel was about a 5 min walk from the terminal. There are so many positives. We spent 4 nights here and would have happily extended if time permitted. The exterior and interior are beautiful - the lobby is unique and very welcoming. Our room, 4008, was spacious with a calming decor, views across the canal and a sliding window. The bed was very comfortable with a good selection of pillows. The bathroom was large with very nice products. Everything was spotless. There was storage for clothes - very exciting! This had been an issue in the majority of hotels so really appreciated not having to live out of a suitcase on the floor. Breakfast was great (except the coffee - on going battle throughout Norway). Freshly brewed coffee could be ordered but was an additional charge. A little cheeky given its not an inexpensive hotel. There is also a cafe next door. The staff were really lovely and helpful. The location was perfect, close to everything. There is a good selection of restaurants close by and the small wine bar across the road from the hotel was very good. The surrounding area is very lovely, a great place to walk, safe and quiet at night. The hotel has free bikes. A little tricky on the cobblestones but a bit of fun. We had a meal at the hotels casual restaurant - good food & reasonably priced. We also had afternoon tea which is on every Saturday. It was very busy but there were plenty of staff to handle things. A lovely experience. Only one negative - the sauna is quite small & gets very busy. Alesund The town is beautiful, easy to walk around, clean and we always felt safe. We were once again very fortunate with the weather being late September. It was fine and suuny most days. The tourist office was very helpful and gave us the info of a by-the-kilo laundry about 20 mins walk from the hotel. They offered a next day service for about $11AU per kilo. Ålesund Vask og Rens AS. Everyone in Alesund was friendly & helpful. There are lots of unique little shops, great restaurants, small bars & cafes. We found a great antique/vintage shop Trankokeriet Antikk just down the road from the hotel in Molovegen. Its is a great street running along one of the ports, nice walk. There are ferries to close by islands. We wanted to do this but time slipped away & we were really enjoying walking around the town and our time at the hotel. Aksla lookout - 438 steps plus the walk there, all uphill but beautiful views from the top & a really lovely park at the base. Cruise ships!!! 3 came into port at the same time which was ridiculous. Not sure how the town copes with that many people all at the same time. One of the ships was taller than our hotel, taking up the whole port. They were gone by the next morning so we had our town back.

Nice common areas, but personal rooms doesn't meet expectations

Delicate and beautiful common area and facilities. There is nothing to complain about here. Rooms are not up to the same expectations or standard. Many material deficiencies in the form of poor sound insulation, unfavorable bathroom solutions, lack of maintenance. Personally I encountered many deficiencies in my room with missing lights, both defective lamps and physical light points. Using the toilet you have to sit sideways on as people over 1.75 will come into conflict with the bathroom decor etc.

Great location and friendly staff, but the good news ends there. We were "upgraded" to a junior suite in the second building, which had beautiful canal views but was awful in every other aspect. The floor is slanted, the lighting is almost non-existant, and every piece of furniture is a like a torture rack to sit on. The few electric sockets are all near the floor, and there is a bizarre third bed jammed against the wall behind the double bed in the suite. The bathroom is a tiny add-on partition made of glass and does not go all the way to the ceiling, so shower water sprays everywhere. The tub is so high, we were afraid to attempt a climb into it it (no grab bars or steps). Our towels were replenished, but not Kleenex, TP, etc., which we had run out of, and our trash wasn't emptied. For the price, this place is just not worth it.

It's like coming home

I have stayed at Brosundet several times now during a busy period at work in Ålesund. It has been a pleasure to come 'home' after long days. Great atmosphere, elegant interior, good food, fantastic breakfast, excellent workout opportunities. And the bathtubs on the outdoor area are simply amazing. One evening, I sat in one of them with a wool hat, in the rain, looking out over the canal towards the Fjellstuen on the topp of the hill... absolutely perfect. And the best part was that it had to be without a book or phone because it was raining... it's been a long time since that happened

This hotel was simply amazing. The staff was wonderful, it was very clean, walking distance to so much. We had a dormer room, and the view was beautiful day & night. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. Every part of this hotel was beautiful. A very relaxing place to stay. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. If I get the chance to visit Alesund again, I would stay here again.
